District Manager

The District Manager (DM) is responsible for managing circulation sales and retention of subscribers and the associated revenue; service to subscribers via independent contractor delivery partners; collections from subscribers and business partners; recruitment of, orientation of, and management of the relationship with delivery partners. The objective of this position is to maintain and grow the current home delivery readership and revenue in an assigned geographic area. The DM reports directly to the Circulation Manager. JOB DUTIES Service Recruit, orient and maintain stable independent contractor delivery business partners. Manage the relationship with the business partners providing delivery services according to the contracted terms and conditions. Achieve excellence in service via the delivery business partners. The objective is to manage relationships with delivery partners and develop relationships with new delivery partners to enable the company to achieve excellence in deliveries in order to preserve and grow readership and revenues. Investigate and follow-up, daily, on all customer complaints with both the customers and the independent contractor. Review, on a regular basis, the delivery service with each business partner. Deliver all service complaints in your district within a reasonable time period of the complaint being dispatched to you when you are scheduled to run service complaints. Hand delivers the paper to the door. Manage the the P-T redelivery person hired for your area. Review reason for all subscriber stops in your district. Work aggressively with all business partners to save the subscriber or find a replacement subscriber for each cancellation. Sales / Retention Be constantly aware of all growth opportunities in the district. Work weekly with the distribution partners to maintain and grow the subscriber count on the delivery routes. Maintain a consistent growth of subscribers in your district at a rate outlined by Department's Goals. Monitor the overall circulation in your district. Strive to keep your district's sales over the previous year's sales. The circulation Marketing Department will support you. Follow-up on all subscriber stops in the district to determine exact source / reason for delivery interruption and attempt to re-sell the subscription. Develop and implement sales promotions in your district. Management / Maintenance Deliver all down routes either personally or via a contracted substitute. Evaluate the profitability of all routes as contracts are renewed or contracts are terminated. Maintain an up-to-date route delivery list for each route in your district in MyDistrict. Audit two routes a month to verify mileage, time to complete the route, and accuracy of route list. Maintain an adequate file of quality applicants for delivery partner opportunities. Work a flexible, 5-day schedule that could include early morning hours, weekends and holidays. Collect subscriber payments or contractor payments if necessary. Manage newspaper tubes installations for subscribers as requested. Marketing-Deliver samples to selected areas as growth opportunities are pursued. Orient all new business partners in order to achieve service excellence. Manage the contractual relationships effectively and according to the law. District managers are required to answer their company cell phones 24 / 7; this applies to days off and after hours. This after hour's communication will be limited to extreme emergencies. SKILL REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL TO THE JOB Must be a self-starter and have a great deal of initiative. Must thrive in an environment of little direct supervision. Must have high standards for their own personal performance. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must enjoy working with people and possess strong leadership skills, organizational skills and sales skills. Must have the ability to solve problems and manage stressful situations effectively. Previous successful management or supervisory experience is strongly desired. Prefer college graduates. Must be computer literate and possess typing skills. Microsoft Word; Excel; Windows Suite. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL TO THE JOB Be able to lift 35 pounds frequently. Be able to sit for long periods in a car. Be able to get in and out of a car frequently. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
