Position Summary
The Sr Environmental Engineer will be the primary wetland contact working with consultants to lead large and small projects that impact the Nation's waters and wetlands within the Mid-Atlantic Division. This position provides professional experience and comprehensive training in wetland issues, including a wide range of tasks in wetland delineations, assessing wetland functions and values, analyzing wetland impacts, and recommending and designing wetland mitigation projects.
Requirements:
Bachelors or equivalent degree in hydrology, soil science, botany, ecology, resource management, or related field. A graduate degree in one of these fields is preferred.
7 - 10 years of full-time experience as a wetland professional; including delineating wetlands using the state and/or federal manuals, plant and/or hydric soil identification, preparing wetland reports, conducting function assessments, and developing and implementing mitigation plans.
7 - 10 years in preparing and completing the necessary application forms and studies to meet regulatory requirements, including local, state, and federal regulations. Experience in working with the US Army Corps of Engineers, State 401 certification programs, State compensatory mitigation programs, and mitigation banking consultants or companies.
7 10 years of experience in evaluating and achieving compensatory mitigation requirements, negotiating mitigation ratios, working with methodologies to justify reduced mitigation requirements, including working with State mitigation programs and mitigation banking consultants to achieve the required mitigation credits.
Current or ability to obtain certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS)
Able to manage multiple projects in multiple areas throughout the division simultaneously.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve desired goals. Strong team leader accomplished in setting and achieving common goals
Effective oral and written communication skills; excellent report writing skills; proficient computer skills a must, including Word, Excel, AutoCad, and Outlook.
Willing to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic to accommodate job requirements.
