Responsible for accessioning, processing, and distribution of laboratory specimens both internally to the hospital laboratory departments and externally to a referral laboratory.

Responsibilities:
Performs all processes associated with specimens received into the laboratory setting.
Includes reviewing the test order electronically or manually, ensuring patient labeling and positive patient identification, accessioning specimens into the laboratory information system, accessing specimen acceptability for testing ordered, processing the specimen according to the test requirements and distributing the specimen to the appropriate laboratory department for testing.
- Demonstrates effective problem solving skills.
Utilizes available resources for complete resolution of suboptimal specimens.
Assures optimum outcome.
- Prioritizes assigned duties and workload to ensure completion meets established laboratory turnaround times.
- Ensures appropriate response and follow up on all customer service issues.
- Completes annual competency by due date.
- Practices effective and efficient use of materials and supplies and actively participates in inventory control.
- Complies with all regulatory standards.
Demonstrates and adheres to hospital and laboratory safety and compliance policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required Associates, Preferred Preferred - Associates degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science and/or one year of post high school education.
Experience:
Minimum of six months of experience in a clinical setting.
Hospital experience preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED PREFERRED.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
