Supplier Support Manufacturing Engineer

Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer, Supplier Support - Composite Structures is responsible for interfacing with suppliers and internal stakeholders to accelerate industrialization and stabilize production through structured technical collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders, development of robust manufacturing processes and tools, and clear documentation of Manufacturing Process Plans (MPP).
Assignments will focus on the manufacture of composite parts and assemblies.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1.
Collaborate with suppliers to establish robust processes and tools for the manufacture of composite parts and assemblies.
2.
Review and approve all Engineering drawings and models for assigned products, ensuring parts, assemblies, and/or installations are manufacturable.
3.
Review, provide feedback on, and clearly document supplier Manufacturing Process Plans (MPP).
4.
Audit supplier MPP on a set cadence based upon part/process criticality and production risk.
5.
Approve tooling designs required for assigned products, create Tooling Request Forms (TRF) to initiate tool creation workflow, utilize project management tools and skills to manage tooling build, inspection, and introduction into production use.
6.
Review Engineering requirements and/or supplier process changes with assembly technicians to assess risks associated with change implementation.
7.
Partner with Quality to reduce supplier QN's by leading improvement projects with suppliers.
8.
Participate in discrepant part root cause investigation and lead corrective action implementation.
9.
Initiate and champion engineering Change Requests (CR) to drive engineering changes, as required, to resolve manufacturability driven supplier discrepancies or inefficiencies.
10.
Develop collaborative relationships with suppliers and work closely with all areas of the organization and suppliers to implement production improvements, engineering changes, new product introductions, and product transfers.
11.
Communicate and coach the application of good manufacturing practices with suppliers.
12.
Support Supply Chain with supplier selection by providing supplier manufacturing capability evaluations and recommendations.
13.
Domestic and international travel, as required, potentially exceeding 50%.
Qualifications Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1.
5
years of experience in aerospace manufacturing or engineering with fabrication, assembly, and installation of assemblies.

10 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree considered.

Six Sigma Certification a plus.

Experience in hands-on composite layup, autoclave/oven curing, machining, assembly and structural bonding5.
Experience defining and directing the conceptual design of composite layup molds, ply cutting and layup, autoclave/oven cure profiles, machining fixtures, and assembly fixturing to achieve tight-tolerance composites assembly dimensional requirements.
6.
Experience leading composite tooling/fixturing conceptual design, build, industrialization, and lifecycle management.
7.
Ability to optimize composite layup, machining, and assembly processes through efficient design of manufacturing workflows, process/equipment selection, fixture design, and tooling selection.
8.
GD&T proficiency preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1.
Knowledge of composite part manufacturing equivalency qualification and part/process qualification.
2.
Knowledge of chemical and physical processing of composite parts including priming, painting, fill and fair, nondestructive test, structural bonding etc.
3.
2D drawing and 3D model review and approval of Engineering designs and specifications to ensure manufacturability of detail parts, assemblies, and installations.
4.
Manufacturing/ Process Planning creating MBOM's and BOP's are a plus.
5.
CATIA V5/V6 experience is a plus.
6.
Ability to work in Enterprise Resource Planning software (SAP experience is a plus).
7.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project).
8.
Proven ability to trouble-shoot defects, manufacturing errors, and time consumption/learning curve issues to improve supplier manufacturing performance.
9.
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment required.
10.
Ability to analyze a variety of engineering data to help determine how to meet company objectives.
11.
Proven experience with Program/Project management in a fast paced work environment having reported out progress to peers, direct supervision, and upper management with experience in plant floor scheduling, creating project files, Gantt charts, process flow charts, track job progress, and assign resources.
12.
Ability to manage multiple complex cross-functional cross-company projects simultaneously.
13.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
14.
Excellent rigor and self-discipline.
