Job Description:
The Senior Manager, Software Asset Management provides leadership and direction to ensure SAM policies, processes and procedures are in place and enforced effectively to meet related regulatory, operational, legal, and reporting requirements.
This role is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of software acquisition planning, purchases, deployment, upgrades, patches, maintenance, and usage control including maintaining all documentation on all software.
This role is accountable to the organization for stewardship of software assets of the organizations that are under the management of IT and includes the administration of our internal software and licenses in the software database.
The Software Asset Manager has oversight of software management across the organization, aligning business objectives, IT strategic direction, audit requirements with IT Asset Management best practices to maximize the organization's investment in software.
Position
Responsibilities:
Implements and builds controls for all software inventory, linking licensing, usage, locations and documentation for all software publishers and products.
Ensures ongoing license compliance and manages to license optimization.
Leads and reports all related cost reduction efforts for the department.
Responsible for ensuring effective software life cycle management, including audit defense and preparations, license recovery, and asset decommissioning practices Maintains visibility into software asset processes and builds controls and measurements for software assets throughout the lifecycle to reduce support and rollout cost, maintain compliance and identify savings and avoiding unexpected vendor costs and penalties through proper licensing practices and controls.
The Software Asset Manager possesses and utilizes the knowledge of software policies, processes and applications that align business drivers with software management that delivers return on investment (ROI), compliance risk mitigation, IT responsiveness and maximize end user productivity.
Develops, implements, and promotes policies, processes, procedures, standards, and system of controls for software asset acquisitions, installations, usage, and disposition to prevent software piracy, theft, and security breaches.
Contribute to the development and execution of a roadmap to improve software asset management processes Create and update records and report on software license compliance based on software license right-to-use (RTU), software license agreements, maintenance agreements, and software installations Review software compliance measures based on existing licensing agreements and implement processes to improve compliance Develop software license management strategies across various functions and business units, in collaboration with management and stakeholders.
Lead all internal and external software licensing audits, analyze results and provide corrective action plans to senior management.
Own, refine and mature the organization's SAM program, architecture and roadmap Participate in key software license negotiations and renewals, preparing license positions and making recommendations on license optimization Maintain the asset database integrity and ensure compliance with asset governance and standards Facilitate the accurate reporting of assets, including asset security compliance Ensures that all parties within the organization understand and adhere to legal requirements for utilization of software.
Provides the correct applications to the specified users at optimal intervals to obtain the best value and to eliminate unnecessary software products.
Increase efficiency by making the best use of existing software assets.
Utilizes available resources to solve problems, aware that Software Asset Management issues interrelate and impact business objectives.
Works with procurement to drive negotiations with 3rd Party Vendors or Resellers to bring about cost reductions.
Focuses on tangible cost and/or risk reduction efforts.
Anticipates technology advancements and identifies the impact of change within the IT environment to balance the constantly changing hardware and software technology and End-of-Life (EOL) and End-of-Support (EOS) requirements.
Enacts and maintains a proactive Software Asset Management program and continually works toward replacing reactive processes.
Maintains a functional knowledge of IT Service Management, Infrastructure, Networking, Cloud Management, Security, Procurement & Sourcing, Licensing Software Contract Law, and Regulatory Requirements.
Partners with IT Service Management, Process Owners, Technical Leads, Application Owners to support and develop process improvements, compliance, and operation efficiencies.
Ensures accuracy of KPI/Metrics to be included in standard reporting and dashboards for Demand Management, Compliance, Audit and Executive Reporting.
Empowers, develops, and supports all Software Asset Management personnel.
Collaborates with procurement to provides strategic direction for the creation and maintenance of an effective Vendor Management program.
Builds and supports productive relationships with all business partners.
Encourages and maintains executive leadership support for all IT related endeavors.
Position
Qualifications:
Minimum 5-8
years of experience managing Software Assets BS/BA or equivalent years' work experience in related field Proficient SAM tool experience with Flexera and working with ServiceNow Expert software licensing knowledge of Tier 1 software publishers (e.
g.
, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Adobe, and associated license metrics (e.
g.
, per device/user, core, processor, PVU/RVU, LPAR, subscription, etc.
) Proven experience in taking a lead role within an IT organization and collaborating across various departments to establish & complete required objectives Strong knowledge and experience working with a CMDB and the specific business services it supports and IT Service Management (ITSM) processes, as well as experience with Discovery tools.
Technical acumen in areas that pertain to SAM e.
g.
, understanding overall enterprise architecture, applications, hardware virtualization, cloud environment, security, etc.
Proven leadership skills demonstrating the ability to drive Software Asset Management results successfully Demonstrated enterprise-level Program and Project Management experience Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, presentation, and problem-solving skills Understanding and experience with regulatory requirements related to Software Asset Management Possess IAITAM Certification e.
